Establishing yourself as a credible business can be overwhelming. There are so many moving pieces already, and adding in an online presence can be a distant dream. Setting up a Google Business Page for your business is a wonderful place to begin! We recommend utilizing a computer for this, but it is possible on a phone.

Here is the breakdown, directly from the Google Business Page Help Center (which we recommend perusing for more details):

  1. On your computer, sign in to your Google Account, or create one. If you create a new Google Account, sign up with your business email domain.

  2. Go to create a profile.

  3. Enter the name of your business. You may also be able to select your business from the list of suggested businesses as you type. If you get a message that someone else has already verified the business, request ownership of the Business Profile.

  4. Search for your business category.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Choose whether you have a location customers can visit. For businesses with a storefront staffed during business hours: Click Yes. You may be asked to enter your business address or position a marker on a map for the location of your businesses. When finished, click Next. For businesses that don't have a storefront staffed during business hours: Click No.

  7. Enter the service area of your business. You can set your service area based on the cities, postal codes, or other areas that you serve. You can add up to 20 service areas. Tip: We recommend you do not extend the boundaries of your overall area farther than 2 hours driving time from where your business is based. For some businesses, it may be appropriate to have a larger service area.

  8. Enter a phone number and website URL.

  9. Click Next. You also have the option to create a website based on your information. Tip: We recommend entering the individual phone number or store page for each location, rather than a remote call center.

  10. Click Finish.

  11. Select a verification option. This will either be a postcard mailed to your business address, or a video verification process you can use your phone to do. If you select postcard, you will receive it in the mail within three business days. The postcard will contain a verification code you will need to enter your Google Business profile in order to be a verified business.

Now that you have set up your Google Business page, and hopefully are able to verify it, you can fill in relevant information for your brand. Including your logo, potentially your headshot, as well as exterior and interior images of your business (if you have a physical business location outside of your home) can be a great place to start.

Google also has a great feature that allows for you to “post” any updates, similar to social media platforms. We recommend including an introductory video or image post, as well as a few videos or photos highlighting your business’s offerings.

Leveraging Google could be as simple as sending out your reviews link once a transaction is completed requesting a review of your services or products. Having recent reviews on this page can boost your SEO, as well as establish trust with potential customers who are deciding whether they like and trust your brand enough to move forward.
